Alex Cogbill lives and works as an artist in Fayetteville, AR with his wife, Camille, and their son and daughter, Leo and Flora. He earned a BFA in Art Education from the University of Arkansas in 2011 and is the owner, instructor, curator, and fabricator of Local Color Studio Gallery for the past 8 years and running. Cogbill has shown and worked on multiple public art pieces throughout the region, including “Soul of a Woman, Soul of a Man” in the SoMa district of Little Rock, “Ron Mazanec Memorial” and “Clunk the Robot” both on the Razorback Greenway in Fayetteville and Bella Vista respectively, and “Curvahedra” on the University of Arkansas campus; designed by Edmund Harriss. Alongside his sculpture partner, Paul Siebenthal, they have completed such pieces as “Bauxite, Halite, Quartzite” on the Greg Smith River Trail in Fort Smith, “Mantises” at the Bella Vista Public Library, “Hiker” at the Kessler Mountain Trailhead in Fayetteville, and are currently working on a piece for Best Friends Foundation in Bentonville.
As a self-proclaimed lifelong learner, his artwork is inspired by the universally accessible concepts of geometry, perception, and the turmoil and triumphs of relationships. Since working with Siebenthal, the idea of working with natural things that surround us but go unseen has been prevalent in their designs. Cogbill has said, "My artwork helps me learn things about myself, my relationships, and I get to learn new processes to achieve my goals. I create problems for myself with my designs, and I get to solve them in construction.”
